How Our Specialised Women's Physio Can Help You
Women’s health physiotherapy is dedicated to addressing the unique health and wellness needs of women. It is beneficial for women in all stages of life from pre-pregnancy, to pregnancy, to menopause. Our physiotherapists can provide comprehensive care for musculoskeletal, pelvic floor, and urological conditions. They offer tailored treatment plans to enhance quality of life, reduce pain and promote health and well-being.
Pelvic Floor Physio
A significant focus of women’s health physiotherapy is the pelvic floor – a group of muscles, ligaments and connective tissues that play a critical role in supporting the pelvic organs, controlling bladder and bowel function and maintaining sexual health. Pelvic floor dysfunction includes conditions like urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, sexual dysfunction (pain during intercourse), as well as general weakness and overactivity of this muscle group.
Pregnancy Physio
During pregnancy, women’s health physiotherapists assist in addressing musculoskeletal discomfort, preparing for childbirth, and managing issues such as pelvic girdle pain, lower back pain, hip and groin pain and abdominal weakness.
Postnatal Physio
Women’s health physiotherapists also offer support in your postnatal journey. They provide rehabilitation and support for women recovering from childbirth, including issues such as abdominal separation, pelvic floor weakness, return to exercise, mastitis and other musculoskeletal conditions common to pregnancy and minding for your new child.
Pregnancy Exercise Classes
Our women’s health physiotherapist offers education and exercise programs to help pregnant women stay active and maintain their fitness during pregnancy. We offer antenatal hydrotherapy classes, as well as gym-based exercise sessions twice a week. These sessions include pregnancy appropriate exercises, education and guidance on lifestyle modifications, exercises, and supporting pelvic health and well-being through pregnancy and postnatally.
