Congratulations Michelle!

Michelle-BodyCare-Physio-Albany

Our experienced Hand Therapist, Michelle, has been accepted onto the Australian Hand Therapy Conference Committee for 2026. Michelle’s commitment to the profession is well recognised and she is very deserving of this role.

Recently BodyCare Physio’s Senior Hand Therapist Michelle, who heads up the BodyCare Hand, Wrist and Elbow Services, also volunteered her time as a mentor for the Australian Hand Therapy Association Online Course for upcoming hand therapists. As BodyCare’s Accredited Hand Therapist (as awarded by the AHTA), Michelle, lent her expertise to the Australian Hand Therapy Association (AHTA) as a supervisor for an introductory hand therapy course. Michelle was able to draw on her 20yrs of hand therapy experience and Accredited Hand Therapy training, to mentor up and coming hand therapists via an online platform to over 100 hand therapists.

Michelle’s extensive knowledge and practical insight, played a pivotal role in ensuring that participants of the course received the benefit of her extensive clinical and mentorship expertise.  They covered essential topics ranging from anatomy and physiology of the hand to treatment techniques for common conditions. By sharing real-world case studies and personal experiences, Michelle was able to help bridge the gap between theory and practice, making the learning process both engaging and practical.

Michelle was able to provide the therapists with the most up to date information on common hand therapy conditions that she treats on a daily basis. These include carpal tunnel syndrome, classically seen with night time waking due to numbness and pain into the hand, finger tendinitis condition causing the finger/thumb to lock, thumb instability for acute injury and/or the effects of arthritis, arm/wrist/finger fractures from misadventure including splinting, management and rehabilitation and also crush injuries to the finger and hand.

The success of this online supervision is a testament to the adaptability and dedication of both the AHTA and Michelle. As the demand for skilled hand therapists continues to grow, such initiatives are essential in preparing the next generation of practitioners to meet the challenges of their field.

Michelle’s involvement in this event demonstrates her commitment to hand therapy and the importance of ongoing professional development and the vital role of experienced therapists in shaping the future of hand therapy.
